Works by Mariana Mizarela
Graduated in Fine Arts at the Artistic School of Porto, Mariana Mizarela has finally settled down in Barcelona. Her speciality is collages. She usually goes through the flea-markets of Lisbon and Barcelona looking for raw material for her creations, mainly old newspapers. In her works, she deconstructs reality to recompose it with her particular vision of dadaist and surrealist reminiscences. Her collages, made both traditionally and digitally, are loaded with historicist symbolism and a clear component of social denunciation and political satire. She says: "I bet on the collage for the pleasure of manipulating non-existent images and decontextualising them". She has made numerous solo and group exhibitions in recent years, among which they are those held at the Natural History Museum of Lisbon (2011) or the Casino de Lisboa (2012), among others.
