María Mallo studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Fernando and the Free Academy of Julio Moisés. Artist belonging to the generation of 1927, a period known as the Spanish interior Avant-garde. Most of her pictorial production is located within the artistic movement of Surrealism. She educated in the School of Arts and Crafts of Avilés, a city in which she made her first exhibitions. Later, she moved to Madrid to complete her training. Many of the artists who led the Spanish artistic Avant-garde of the early twentieth century were concentrated there. Today her extravagant personality and her work are remembered and recognised as that of a unique creative genius.
