Carmen Calvo

Valencia 1950

Carmen Calvo is a conceptual artist that has contributed to enrich the art contemporary panorama in Valencia. She studied Publicity at the Arts and Crafts School of Valencia, and later on, she studied Fine Arts. She started to stand out in the artistic panorama during the 70’s decade, with clear influence by the Pop Art. Her interest in archaeology and the fact that she worked when younger in a pottery factory are now reflected in her work, which includes pieces of ceramics and clay. The diversity of materials is one of the most personal characteristics of her work, in which surreal elements, the Dada disconnection and the sobriety of Povera Art come together. Carmen Calvo has received a huge recognition, and we must highlight the Fine Arts National Award that she was granted in 2013.
