Nekane Manrique Mezquita

Bilbao 1985

The artist Nekane graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country in Vizcaya. Through her paintings she explores the relationship between the subject and him/herself, conducting this way an investigation about the body, facial-body expression and feelings through non-verbal language. She uses the female portrait in neutral spaces, as a means of evasion to try to find a mental and physical balance. Images immersed in silence that create atmospheres of peace and tranquility or, on the contrary, of intrigue and mystery. Nekane has been awarded in different occasions, among which we can highlight the Pancho Cossío National Painting Award in Cantabria or the 1st Prize in the XI Painting Contest to spread the artistic work of the women of Bizkaia. She has organised several solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
