OBEY Shepard Fairey

OBEY Shepard Fairey

Charleston (Carolina del Sur) 1970

Frank Shepard Fairey, OBEY (Charleston, 1970), is an American urban artist and designer recognized for his creations that take elements of cartelism and political advertising in the mid-20th century.

He was one of the first graffiti artists of the end of the last decade, promoting and giving visibility to the technique of adhesives as an intervention on the urban environment. Gradually, it has become an icon of contemporary popular culture.

Throughout his career, he has made repeated versions of the same theme, adapting his creations to pieces for exhibitions, posters, t-shirts ..., in different sectors of the art market. In his pieces, there is usually a veiled policy theme, or suggestive reflections on aesthetic and social stereotypes. His designs are also based on the Russian poster of the communist stage and Pop Art, with clear elements of the American comic.
