Manolo Valdés
Valencia 1942
The Spanish painter Manolo Valdés studied part of his education at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos. He was the introducer in Spain of a form of artistic expression that combines political and social commitment with humour and irony. Influenced by Velázquez, Rembrandt, Rubens and Matisse, Manolo Valdés makes a work of great format in which the lights and colours express a feeling of tactility due to the treatment of the materials. Along with Manolo Valdés, Rafael Solbes and Juan Antonio Toledo formed the Equipo Crónica. He has received several awards and mentions throughout his career, along with the organisation of a variety of solo and group exhibitions worldwide.
