Spanish painter, sculptor and art theoric. He is one of the main informalist artists known internationally and one of the most important spanish artist in the 20th century. He got Wolf Art Foundation award in 1981. Gold medal in Cataluña Generalitat in 1983. He obtained Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 1990. Picasso Gold Medal from UNESCO in 1993. Velázquez Fine Art Prize in 2003. Spanish King Juan Carlos I recognized his artistic career with the title `Marqués de Tápies´, in 2010. He created his own vanguardist style, in which he mixed tradition and innovation through an abstract and symbolic language. Materials in his work seems to appear directly from an original chaos, like if they had not found his stable place in the world. Tapies revealed that his work would have the task of transforming our inner world.
