Antonio Saura is a Spanish painter and writer, considered one of the greatest Spanish artist of the 20th century. The major part of his work consists on figurative art and it is characterised by the conflict in the shape. His paintings are expressive, and they seem to be obsessed in their pictorial frankness. It is a conflict in a world full of contradictions and lack of security where pessimism empires. Along with Manolo Millares, Pablo Serrano, Rafael Canogar, Luis Feito and some other artists, he founded the group “El Paso”, though it broke up in 1959. His work was exhibited both at a national and an international level, in museums and galleries. Saura has received a large number of awards, among which we must highlight the Doctor Honoris Causa granted by the University of Castilla-La Mancha in 1997.
