Works by Joan Miró
Painter, sculptor and ceramist. He studied in Fine Art School and in Galí Academy. He is considered one of the most relevant figures in the surrealism movement. He had strong influences from Cubism, Fauvism and Expressionism at the beginning of his career. After that he developed a more plain painting in a naive style. Engraving Prize in the Venice BIennale in 1954. Guggenheim Foundation Prize in 1959. He was named `Doctor Honoris Causa´ by Harvard University in 1968, by Barcelona University in 1979 and by Murcia University in 1983. Gold medal in Fine Arts in 1980.
Miró escaped from academicism to look for his own pure and contemporary artwork, which were not included in any movement. Nowadays, we can find important pieces from Miró at Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona.
